About us

Kia ora, greetings, haere mai, we are your hosts, Dave 'n' Rose and we warmly welcome you to share our world.

We are Kaitiaki (guardians) to this very sacred part of Aotearoa, "Te Rerenga Wairua - Where the Spirits Leap" - known to you as Cape Reinga. We are also officially accredited ‘Kiwi Ambassadors’.

Local Maori Hosts

Ahikaa Adventures is a family venture involving our tamariki (children) and other “Ahikaa” - local people.

We take great pride in sharing Maori history and who we are through our stories and helping visitors to understand how sacred and special this place is to us.

We are our Tupuna (ancestors)... we are our whenua (land) and we give you the opportunity to interact with us as proud Maori - at a grassroots and personal level.

Our Maori cultural eco adventures tours are truly unique because you get to interact with genuine local people in small groups on land that we have lived on for generations.

We live in Te Hapua, on the shores of the Parengarenga Harbour where our whanau (family) have lived nomadicially at the top of Aotearoa (the Land of the Long White Cloud - New Zealand) since the beginning... of what?... of time of course!

Traditional Maori Language

We have shared a number of te reo Maori (Maori language) words with you throughout this website and will be proud to share more of our language and legends with you during the tours.

Ancient Eco Living Traditions

Papatuanuku (Mother Earth) is our mother... we care for her as she cares for us in the true sense of sustainability... with aroha... love.

Because we love our special place on Papatuanuku, we have never felt the urge to wander far, but it gives us great pride and pleasure to show you why this place is so part of our haa (breath of life). The world comes to us, mingles with us... and we are left... feeling like we have brought something special to its journey.

We look forward to sharing some of the traditional Maori eco and sustainable practices with you on one of our guided eco tours.
